Journal field note

Basil made its case

A small bundle on the towel, a pair of scissors, and the useful kind of abundance.

Basil, thyme, mint, scissors, and a small bundle of cut herbs on a towel.

The basil had grown past the tidy stage and into the generous one. Tender stems leaned over the bed, mint pressed against the path, and the towel on the porch table became the natural place to sort what would come inside.

We clipped only the stems that were ready, leaving the newer leaves plenty of room. The bundle stayed small enough to use that evening, with the scent following us back through the kitchen door.

The garden note keeps the larger bed in view, along with the practical tools that make a close, clean pass easier.
